Julia Roberts has been dominant in Hollywood since she fled onto the scene in 1989’s Steel Magnolias which followed with 1990’s classic Pretty Woman opposite Richard Gere.
Tons of starring roles and awards later, the 47 year old actress shows no signs of taking a break as she lands a huge modeling campaign as the new face of Givenchy’s Spring 2015 campaign.
Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci was aiming for something specific with this new campaign and out of all the women he could have selected he only had one in mind, Julia.
“For me, Julia is many things. She this strength as an actress, but she’s also this beautiful American woman. She’s a big star, but she’s not a paparazzi or a blog monster. It’s going to be my tenth year at Givenchy in March, so I wanted to represent the woman who is more mature, beautiful, talented, but also unpretentious,” Tisci told Yahoo Style.
Even Roberts was surprised about the casting, “My sister and I were actually just on the phone, and we were laughing so hard. She goes, ‘How are you suddenly turned into a supermodel? You’re almost 50.’ It’s funny.”
While she is known for glamorous red carpet looks and a dazzling smile, Tisci decided to use Roberts’ everyday, genuine look in the campaign.
“She has the most beautiful smile in the world and I love it, but it’s Julia’s sensibility that interests me. For me, the Julia in these pictures is the real one you see every day. They’re really honest portraits of her. People want to see Julia in the way she is on screen, but in real life she’s much more tomboyish, no make up.”
In the first ad revealed for the campaign, smile or not Roberts’ beauty cannot be denied as she shows off her gorgeous natural look rocking a black tuxedo.
The actress is also getting ready for awards season as she is up for a SAG award for role in the TV movie The Normal Heart.
