This week’s episode of This Is Us definitely focused much of its storyline on Kevin; however, the audience and Kevin himself were in for quite the shock when it was announced that Kate had lost the baby at the end of the episode.
Next week’s episode will give more information about the cause of the loss, but fans of the show immediately expressed their heartbreak over the controversial plot twist over Twitter. “Kate lost the baby, #ThisIsUs why you gotta be like that,” one fan commented. “Now I have to go through the next week knowing Kate lost the baby!! #ThisIsUs,” another devastated fan shared.
Actress Chrissy Metz took to Twitter to respond to fans and expressed her own feelings about the tragic moment. “It’s devastating, I know, but @ThisIsUsWriters take us on the journey of despair to express an important story line and situation we are often too afraid to discuss,” she responded when an upset fan asked how this could happen.
Creator Dan Fogelman added, “We didn’t want it to happen to them. But we’re trying to capture real life, and it happens. A lot. Next week is a difficult, ultimately life-affirming ep about love & family. We hope you’ll watch it & talk about it – not enough people do.”
