On Tuesday, July 7, a very strange video surfaced of pop star Ariana Grande licking donuts on display in the Wolfee Donut shop in Lake Elsinore, California.
TMZ posted the video and now police, as well as the Riverside County public health officials are reviewing and investigating the shop’s security footage of the incident, multiple sources have confirmed.
The video apparently shows Grande, 22, not only licking the donuts, but then spitting on trays of donuts that were displayed. She also dares the guy she was with to do the same.
Dottie Ellis-Merki, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health, stated that their investigation is looking into why the donuts were left out, exposed and unprotected from customers, which is in violation of the state food laws.
Ellis-Merki also noted that the donut shop does not usually operate that way, it was just inopportune timing of having donuts out. “During the investigation, the manager did state normally don’t leave donuts out like was shown in the video. The employee went to the back to retrieve freshly made donuts by request of the customer [Grande] and left the trays out while getting other trays,” she stated in an email.
In the same video Grande also apparently says, “What the f–k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America,” but has apologized in a lengthy statement posted to Twitter.
“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words […] I should have known better in how I expressed myself. And with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better.”
