The sudden and shocking passing of beloved actor Luke Perry means that his final role will be in a film released posthumously.
After suffering a “massive” stroke on February 27, 2019, Perry passed away days later on Monday, March 4 at the age of 52, and while his final episodes of the hit teen drama Riverdale are still upcoming, he also had one more film role. Perry had filmed scenes as Scott Lancer for the highly-anticipated upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Perry had finished filming for the movie only days before his death. His role as Scott Lancer is one of the main characters of the Western TV series Lancer , which ran from 1968 to 1970 on CBS.
The film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino and more and is set in 1969 Los Angeles with DiCaprio starring as Rick Dalton, the former star of a Western TV series, with Pitt costarring as his character’s longtime stunt double Cliff Booth. They’re both struggling to survive in a Hollywood they no longer recognize. Although, one person they do recognize is Rick’s next-door neighbor: Sharon Tate, played by Robbie, 28, which means the film will touch upon the Charles Manson murders.
A description for the film reads: “In 1969 Los Angeles, around the time of the Charles Manson murders, a television actor and his stunt double embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry.”
Prior to Perry’s untimely death, the film also suffered a death when Burt Reynolds, who was cast to appear in the film, died in September 2018. His role was replaced by Bruce Dern.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set for release on July 26, 2019.
