The 2014 Golden Globe Award nominees have been announced – and you might be surprised by who’s missing from the list.
12 Years a Slave and American Hustle were the most nominated films, with 7 nominations each, including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Also nominated for Best Picture (drama) are Captain Phillips, Gravity, Philomena and Rush, while in the loosely defined comedy/musical category along with American Hustle are Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, Nebraska and Wolf of Wall Street.
It really was a great year for film, as Best Actor and Best Actress nominees actually come from a number of other films, including Enough Said, Blue Jasmine, Saving Mr. Banks, Labor Day, All is Lost, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Frances Ha, Before Midnight, August: Osage County and Dallas’ Buyers Club.
In TV drama, AMC’s Breaking Bad and Netflix original series House of Cards topped the list, while on the comedy side, HBO’s Girls, ABC’s Modern Family and NBC’s Parks & Recreation lead the pack. Perhaps it’s time for the major broadcast networks to take another look at their dramas, since The Good Wife was the only non-cable drama to be nominated (unless you count foreign import Downtown Abbey, which airs on PBS).
But what most people are talking about isn’t who was recognized – it’s who was left out of the Golden Globes race, especially in TV. Check out the video to see the shows that were shockingly snubbed!
