Fame10 Fashion Evolution: January Jones

January Jones is incredibly fearless when it comes to dressing for the red carpet and we don’t think she gets enough credit. In an age where every celebrity seems to have a stylist, Jones is one of the rare people who styles herself and we think she’s quite good at it. Since we mostly know her as Betty Draper – the fashionable but icy character on “Mad Men” – we decided to take a look at Jones’ fashion evolution and see how she transitioned from playing it safe on the red carpet to being one of the best dressed celebrities in the industry. Take a look!

Premiere of American Wedding – 2003

January Jones wore this lacy number to the premiere of “American Wedding,” the third installment of the “American Pie” films in 2003. The pretty, young actress was in the process of moving away from modeling and actively trying to break into television and film. She landed a number of small and supporting roles around this time in movies like “Bandits” with Bruce Willis, “Taboo,” “Full Frontal” and “Anger Management.”

62nd Annual Golden Globe Award – 2005

The “Mad Men” star looked like she was headed to prom when she showed up at the 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards in this white dress with black detail. We’re not quite sure what that thing on her chest is either – it kind of looks like a corsage! The most interesting part of this picture is January Jones’ date, Josh Groban. These two dated from 2003 to 2006 and were quite into each, according to Groban. “We dated for about two and a half years, and we were madly in love. It was definitely my longest relationship.”

Vanity Fair Oscar Party – 2006

January Jones showed up at the Vanity Fair Oscar party wearing a metallic gown with silver detailing across the top. While the actress was still dating Josh Groban when she attended this event, their relationship wasn’t going to last much longer. Fortunately for Jones, her career was about to take off. In 2007, she landed the part of Betty Draper on AMC’s “Mad Men,” which turned the struggling actress into a household name.

American Cinematheque Gala – 2007

The “American Wedding” actress looked lovely in this blush colored gown with a plunging neckline, which she wore to the American Cinematheque Gala. January Jones had already landed the part of Betty Draper on “Mad Men” at this point. She had initially auditioned for the role of Peggy Olson, but Matthew Weiner had another role in mind for her. “He wasn’t sure what he was going to do with [Betty Draper], and there weren’t any real lines for Betty at the time,” Jones told the Chicago Sun-Times. “He wrote a couple scenes overnight – really amazing scenes, actually – and I came in and read for him, and that was it.”

The “X-Men” actress was one of the best dressed celebrities at the Producers Guild Awards in 2009. She looked flawless in this strapless, pink, beaded Elie Saab Fall 2008 Couture dress with silver Jimmy Choo peep-toe heels. January Jones is showing us that she doesn’t like to play it safe on the red carpet, which is great. If the acting thing doesn’t work out, she can always win our respect with her fearless sense of fashion.

January Jones rocked this amazing blue, strapless Atelier Versace dress, which was cut short at the front and had a long flowing train, at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards. The budding style icon accessorized with diamonds by Cartier and Miu Miu heels. Jones showed up at the awards ceremony with Jason Sudeikis. These two had been dating for a few weeks at that point and were spotted getting cozy with each other at the event.

Premiere of Unknown – 2011

The Golden Globe-nominated actress went for an edgy look at the Los Angeles premiere of “Unknown.” She wore this strapless, navy blue Alexander McQueen dress with gold embroidered details and an asymmetrical skirt. Shortly before this, January Jones and Jason Sudeikis ended their on-off relationship. Rumor has it that the distance really got in the way – Jones filmed “Mad Men” in Los Angeles and Sudeikis filmed “Saturday Night Live” in New York.

64th Primetime Emmy Awards – 2012

January Jones went glam at the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards. She wore this show-stopping black Zac Posen Resort 2013 gown with a Cartier clutch and jewels and Christian Louboutin shoes. The single mom was dating Noah Miller, her director in “Sweetwater,” around this time; however, she had a cynical attitude about dating in Hollywood. “When you date someone else who’s in the industry, someone has to make the sacrifices. And if no one’s willing to, then you just have to be friends,” Jones told Allure.

The “Sweetwater” actress looked beautiful in this Mary Katrantzou ‘Fauwi Babelonia’ jacquard cap-sleeved dress with a pretty landscape print from the Fall 2013 collection. It almost looks like something Betty Draper would wear on “Mad Men!” 2013 was an interesting year for January Jones. She reportedly got hot and heavy with Liam Hemsworth at a pre-Oscar party while he was engaged to Miley Cyrus.

She completed the look with Jimmy Choo ‘Candy’ clutch and black Jimmy Choo sandals. After going through Jones’ red carpet photos, it seems obvious to us that she is one of the few celebrities who is actually fearless when it comes to style. We can’t wait to see more from her!
