Conan O’Brien hit pause during the Monday taping of his show to offer his condolences to the late Robin Williams. Like so many others, Conan learned of Robin’s death in the midst of his workday, and addressed it immediately.

For those who aren’t in the know, late night talk shows go “live” with their audiences during the afternoon. This allows for the magic of editing into the evening, the delivery to the network and the playing of the broadcast after your late, local news. And it was during Monday afternoon that the news of Robin William’s death broke.

For Conan O’Brien, Andy Richter and the gang at Conan, the news came after the opening monologue, and while guest Will Arnett was enjoying his interview and chat about all projects, including the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Conan has always done a wonderful job of breaking from the comedy to offer heartfelt sentiment when appropriate. It is a testament to his humanity and intelligence, and is part of what has made Conan’s shows so popular over the years.

Conan, Will and Andy paid their respects to Robin, shared a few moments remembering the comedian and actor, then the show went on. As Robin Williams was well aware: the show always goes on.

The moment Conan received word of Robin’s untimely demise, there was still very little information available surrounding the death circumstance. It has since been reported, and become common knowledge that Robin’s death has been of an apparent suicide–the second blow from this tremendous loss.
