Gilmore Girls: Things We Learned From The Trailer

Source: Bustle

The official Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life trailer is out and it looks really good! In those two and a half minutes, we learned lots about what to expect in the highly anticipated reboot from Netflix – here are the 7 most important things we learned:

7. They Still Got the Banter

It looks like the dialogue is as good as ever! The trailer opens with Rory and Lorelai’s trademark banter, which is infused with witty pop culture references. They discuss what they watched the previous night and Lorelai makes a reference to Tori Spelling on hibachi grill and it only gets better from there! In the next scene, Lorelai tells Rory about the town’s debate over taking the phone booth out and Rory replies that, if they take it out, where will Superman change when he comes to save the town from Ben Affleck? Touché Rory, touché.

6. They Still Love Junk Food

On the show, Rory and Lorelai have always shunned healthy eating habits and, in the reboot, they’re still doing the same thing! In the trailer, they can be seen eating Pop Tarts for breakfast as they discuss how they ordered Greek, Chinese and Italian food, as well as hotdogs the night before. In another scene, Luke refuses to make tater tots for Rory and Lorelai and lectures them about eating tacos and mini donuts. They obviously haven’t changed and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

5. Rory’s Vagabond Existence

When the series ended, Rory was leaving Stars Hollow to cover Barack Obama’s presidential campaign for a website; however, since then, she’s been leading a nomadic existence, traveling the world and now she’s back living with her mom. In the trailer, she tells her ex Jess that she currently has no job, no credit and “no underwear” but, at this point in her life, she feels that this is the right time in life to be “rootless.”

4. Luke and Lorelai Are Together

There are a number of clips that seem to be referencing Luke and Lorelai’s relationship and many of them seem to indicate that they are together, but she isn’t particularly happy. This is clear when she says, “I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, where I was going, but lately, I don’t know, things seem hazier. We’re happy, Luke and I.” There’s something about her tone and the unconvincing manner in which she says that they are happy, which seems foreboding.

3. The Gilmore Girls Are Lost

Emily, Rory and Lorelai all mention in the trailer how lost they are feeling. As mentioned, Rory doesn’t have a job or any direction and Lorelai doesn’t seem to know what she wants in life. Emily is grieving the loss of her husband of 50 years, Richard, and she has no idea how to be on her own, which leads to her getting rid of many of her possessions. It looks like the reboot will focus a lot on the Gilmore Girls finding purpose again.

2. Return to Chilton

In one scene, it looks like Rory is back at Chilton, which could mean that she secured a teaching position there. Months ago, another photo was released where she is standing at a blackboard in what looks like a classroom, which supports this hypothesis. Rory going back to Chilton to teach…it wouldn’t be a bad thing!

1. Everyone Is Back

All of Rory’s ex boyfriends – Dean, Jess and Logan – make cameos in the trailers and so do Lane, Mrs. Kim, Babette, Patty and Taylor. Kirk appears in one scene in what looks like a Friday night dinner at Emily’s, which doesn’t make a ton of sense, but neither does Kirk. Emily even asks Lorelai, “Explain to me again who that person is.” Michel also makes a brief appearance in the trailer and so does Sookie, and it looks like they are still working with Lorelai at the Dragonfly Inn.
