There are some celebrities in Hollywood who are just not into smiling. We’re not sure what the problem is – they all have perfect teeth! All of the celebrities on our list have enviable smiles. They just won’t do it. Some of them refuse to because they hate the paparazzi; others think that smiling causes wrinkles; and some were told many, many years ago that they have ugly smiles. We think that they need to get over their hangs up and start at least pretending to look happy on the red carpet. The only thing worse than not smiling is wasting a perfectly good smile – like these 7 celebrities.
7. Uma Thurman
Uma Thurman isn’t one to smile on the red carpet. According to her, this is because she was told as a child that her smile was “ugly.” “When I was 10, someone told me I had an ugly smile,” she told The Daily Mail. “So I spent the whole of my younger years feeling embarrassed and never smiling with my mouth open. But what are you going to do?”
The “Kill Bill” star also said that she tries to embrace her age. “We all lose our looks as we get older and I actually think there’s a beauty to older people that’s just different to the beauty of younger people,” she reflected. “You look good as a beautiful mature woman, but you do not look 12…If you tried you would look really weird,” she said. This comes after she was heavily criticized for showing up with a new face at the premiere of her show “The Slap.” She later revealed it was just makeup that made her face look so different.

Kristen Stewart isn’t the sort of person who likes to smile for the sake of it, especially if there are any paparazzi around. “Now I feel like if I smiled for a paparazzi photo – not that I ever would – that’s exactly what people would be desecrating me for,” she told Elle magazine. “They’d be like, ‘Now you’re going to give it up, now you’re a sellout.’ Like, okay. What do you want? What would you like?”
It isn’t just the paparazzi that she won’t smile at. When she’s on a red carpet, she’s also puts a frown on with her couture. She kind of has a love-hate thing with fame. She likes the opportunities that she gets to star in movies, as well as the big paychecks that come with it, but she doesn’t like the attention that comes with it. We get the impression that she’s kind of shy and definitely awkward.

Leonardo DiCaprio has a lovely smile – but he doesn’t like to show it off for the cameras because of the paparazzi. “This is something I’d like to clarify. I’ve heard people say, ‘Because you hide, it makes you seem ungrateful.’ The mere fact that these – I’ll use the word piles – are earning money from exploiting my image is the only reason I hide myself or am not a photo-friendly person. I do not like the way they conduct themselves. I think they’re disrespectful and dangerous. The reason I don’t pose or smile or that I seem mad is that I don’t want them to make a living off my private life,” he said.
DiCaprio won’t even smile on the red carpet anymore. We think he just hates photographers in general. It doesn’t matter whether they are a pap or a photographer working for a legitimate company – he won’t smile for either.

When they were growing up, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen smiled a lot and they looked good doing it – they both had lovely smiles. After reaching adulthood, however, they stopped smiling. It was probably pretty gradual. First, they stopped smiling for the paparazzi and then they stopped smiling on the red carpet. Whenever we see them around, they always look really gloomy, even though they have plenty of reasons to smile and be happy.
In 2007, Mary Kate told Entertainment Weekly why she never smiles in photos. “I don’t want my picture taken. The only time I think it’s okay is at a red-carpet event or a photo shoot. So every time I see paparazzi, I cover my face so they don’t get a picture, and I’m just the mean person who doesn’t smile,” she said. One would think that they would have grown out of this, but now it is a status quo these two mini-moguls.

Kim Kardashian is easily one of the most vain of all the celebrities. She has reportedly been getting Botox, fillers and electrolysis for years. She is obviously afraid of aging in the same way her daughter North probably fears the boogie man. Since hooking up with Kanye West, she has been looking awfully miserable. She never smiles on the red carpet or for the paparazzi anymore. According to her, this is because “smiling causes wrinkles.”
In a post on Instagram, the reality TV star teased her followers with a picture of her smiling alongside a friend. “See I do smile…even laugh on occasion. Not too often though because it causes wrinkles @shammaurice,” she wrote. We really don’t know why she is so worried about her smiling causing wrinkles. With all of the Botox and fillers she gets, we’re pretty sure that she will never have to worry about wrinkles – ever.

Victoria Beckham has a life that most people would kill for. She’s a former pop star who has become a successful designer; she’s married to one the hottest guys on the planet; she has four beautiful and healthy children; and she has so much money she would probably never have to work another day in her life if she didn’t want to. Even though she has a lot to smile about, she is never caught smiling in public.
According to the former Spice Girl, she stopped smiling when she got into fashion. “I actually used to smile a lot in pictures,” she told Glamour magazine. “I think I only stopped smiling when I got into fashion. Fashion stole my smile! I’ve created this person. And I’m not saying that’s not me, but I wouldn’t say that’s the whole me…It’s an armor that goes up.” We miss the days when she used to smile!

Kanye West doesn’t come across as a really happy guy. He is always scowling and almost always complaining, especially when he is at the Grammy Awards. One would think that he is just a miserable person; however, according to him, that isn’t the case. The reason that he doesn’t smile is because not smiling makes him happy.
“Back when I was working on Yeezus,” the rapper-fashion designer told a reporter at High Snobiety, “I saw this book from the 1800s and it was velvet-covered with brass and everything. I looked at all these people’s photos, and they look so real, and their outfits were incredible, and they weren’t smiling. People, you know, the paparazzi, always come up to me: ‘Why you not smiling?’ And I think, not smiling makes me smile. When you see paintings in an old castle, people are not smiling because it just wouldn’t look as cool.”
