11 Disney Stars Who Slid Off The Rails!

The Disney network is responsible for the careers of a lot of stars these days! There’s always some new, young talent in the making and many of these young stars, in spite of their wealth, privilege and talent, seem to fall off the rails! Too many Disney graduates end up battling substance abuse, facing legal problems and spiralling out of control. We have a list of 11 Disney stars who have slid off the rails! While some have made it back, others haven’t been so lucky!

11. Zac Efron

Zac Efron got his start as Troy in Disney’s “High School Musical” franchise and like all Disney stars he had a wholesome, clean image. Last year, however, Efron was said to have checked into rehab to deal with a cocaine addiction. According to the rumor mill, his struggle with cocaine caused him to miss several days of filming for “Neighbors” back in April. While staying at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Efron and some friends are said to have caused about $50,000 worth of damage to their room during a cocaine-fuelled party. These days Efron is looking healthy and seem to be back on track!

10. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan got her start by playing twins in “The Parent Trap” and then she went on to star in more Disney films including “Freaky Friday,” “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen” and “Herbie: Fully Loaded.” Despite showing an excessive amount of promise and talent, Lohan’s film career is pretty much over thanks to numerous misdemeanors, court appearances and jail sentences. The world continues to wait for her to get back on track!

9. Mischa Barton

In 2002, Mischa Barton starred in the Disney movie “Ring of Endless Light” and then went on to land the coveted role of Marissa Cooper on “The O.C.” Since then Barton’s image has taken quite the beating. In 2007, she was arrested for DUI and for driving without a valid license and, in 2009, she landed in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre psychiatric ward under an involuntary 5150 hold after she threatened to kill herself. These days Barton keeps a pretty low profile and continues to act in smaller films.

8. Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf made his debut on “Breakfast with Einstein” and then nabbed his breakout role in the award-winning Disney series “Even Stevens.” In 2007, LaBeouf was arrested for trespassing in a Chicago Walgreens after appearing intoxicated and refusing to leave the store. In 2008, he was arrested for DUI and his license was suspended for one year. On top of all that, LaBeouf has also been involved in at least 2 few bar fights over the years, which ended up making headlines all over the world.

7. Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens was seen as your girl next door thanks to her involvement in Disney’s “High School Musical” franchise; however, in 2007, 2009 and 2011, nude photos of the star were leaked online, tarnishing her squeaky clean image forever. Since then Hudgens has been involved in the controversial movie “Spring Breakers.” Her character in the film participates in robbery, murder and threesomes.

6. Mitchel Musso

Michel Musso got his start on “Hanna Montana” alongside Miley Cyrus; however, he has appeared in a number of other Disney shows including “Phineas and Ferb” and “Pair of Kings.”  Like many Disney stars, Musso has also been in trouble with the law. In 2011, he was charged with two counts of driving under the influence after failing sobriety tests.

5. Fergie

Fergie is a graduate of Disney’s “Kids Incorporated” and went on to join the girl group Wild Orchid. While part of Wild Orchid, Fergie began experimenting with drugs, becoming addicted to crystal meth. Fergie quit meth and went on to join the Black Eyed Peas. She’s now married to actor Josh Duhamel and they have one son together, who will turn 1 in August.

4. Britney Spears

Britney Spears got her start on “The Mickey Mouse Club” and then went on to become an international pop star in 1998 with the release of “…Baby One More Time.” Spears was considered quite wholesome until a series of questionable decisions brought her down. These included the 55 hour marriage to her childhood friend, her two year marriage to Kevin Federline, partying with the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan while her two sons were at home, her meltdown that included attacking a Paparazzo’s car with an umbrella and her strange relationship with Paparazzo Adnan Ghalib. Spears has since released a couple of albums, been a judge on “X Factor” and currently has a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

3. Christina Aguilera

Like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera also got her start on “The Mickey Mouse Club” and, around the same time as Spears, she also became an international pop star with the release of her single “Genie in a Bottle.” A few short years later, Aguilera got rid of her girl next-door image with the release of her over sexualized video for “Dirrty.” In 2011, with a young son at home, 310-year-old Aguilera was arrested for public intoxication.

2. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus – best known for her starring role on “Hannah Montana” – was the epitome of the girl next door; however, in 2008, a suggestive photo taken by Anna Liebowitz of the 15 year old surfaced and, after that, provocative videos and stage performances – from pole dancing to twerking – have become commonplace. Needless to say, Miley’s squeaky clean image seems gone for good.

1. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato was the star of Disney’s “As the Bells Rings,” “Camp Rock” and “Sonny with a Chance.” Lovato has struggled with alcohol, drugs, bulimia and self-injury, and she has been quite open with the media regarding these struggles. Back in 2010, she dropped out of the Jonas Brothers tour to go to rehab for emotional and physical issues after getting into a physical altercation with one of her dancers. Since leaving rehab, Lovato has become a judge on “X-Factor,” released her third album “Unbroken” and is actively involved in the anti-bullying movement. Now that’s a happy ending!
