Being superstitious can mean a lot of things to different people. Some people subconsciously do things, while others have exact rituals they have to follow especially athletes and celebrities. From fear of black cats to lucky charms, a lot of stars have adopted some odd customs when it comes to their work and lives, especially with so much traveling. Take a look at 11 celebrities who have weird superstitions:

11. Colin Farrell

The luck of the Irish means a lot more to Irish actor Colin Farrell than many realize. The handsome actor revealed just how superstitious he is when back in 2011 he offered around $20,000 as a reward in return for his “lucky belt.” The actor revealed that the belt had been given to him by his father Eamonn, and having it was very important to his success. Aside from the belt, Farrell also admitted years before that he had a pair of “lucky boxers” that were given to him by his brother which were covered in shamrocks and said “The luck of the Irish” on the waistband, and he wore them on the first day of every movie shoot he was a part of.

10. Victoria Beckham

Former Spice Girl and fashion maven Victoria Beckham may always seem calm and collected, but it is not before going through some specific rituals. “If I told you my backstage rituals, and was honest you would think I was a little weird. I carry my crystals with me which some people might think as odd but it works for us,” she explained. She added that her superstitions didn’t end with her crystals. “New York works and my team are happy there. We have a great set up there. We go to the same hotel. But I am quite superstitious. I don’t walk underneath ladders, and if I see magpies, I do the salute thing.” Saluting a magpie comes from the belief they bring bad luck, but that can be reversed if you salute them or say “good morning” to them.

9. Megan Fox

Rituals and superstitions are different for everybody, but Megan Fox’s is definitely one of the most entertaining. The actress revealed during an interview on Conan in 2009 that she had a fear of flying that most definitely conflicted with her work, but luckily she found her good luck charm: Britney Spears. “I know for a fact it’s not my destiny to die listening to a Britney Spears album. So I always put that on in my iPhone when I’m flying because it won’t crash as long as I’ve got Britney on.”

8. Emma Roberts

While some celebrities adopt their own superstitions or beliefs when it comes to flying, or doing a good job, others stick to traditional beliefs including Emma Roberts. The Scream Queens actress told InStyle, “I don’t walk under ladders. My mom just walked under one yesterday and I was like, ‘Oh my God. I can’t believe you just did that!’ I’ve never walked under a ladder, ever!”

7. Chris Martin

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is very specific about what needs to happen before every show, and it has most certainly become a ritual for the singer. “For me, there are about 18 things I have to do before I can go out to perform — most of them are too ridiculous to repeat! One is I have to brush my teeth before I go on stage, otherwise I just don’t feel smart.”

6. Serena Williams

Serena Williams is one of the world’s most impressive athletes, and she attributes at least some of her success to her superstitions. Williams has very specific pre-game rituals including tying her shoelaces a specific way and bringing her shower sandals to the court. During a game she has a ritual of bouncing the ball five times before her first serve and twice before her second serve. One of her more cringe-worthy superstitions is to not change her socks in a tournament if she is winning, making for a pretty awful sock situation by the end of the tournament.

5. Heidi Klum

When it comes to strange superstitions, super model and America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum has one of the strangest. The gorgeous star revealed that she has a bag of her baby teeth which she carries around with her for good luck. “Well I don’t, like, advertise it. I did show somebody once and it fell under the seat and the flight attendant came over and he’s like, ‘Can I help you?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m just looking for my teeth.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh.’ I had to find it — it’s not good luck if I leave them on the plane,” she explained to Entertainment Weekly.

4. James McAvoy

For some of these superstitious celebrities it seems like their good luck rituals are pretty time consuming, and that is one thing actor James McAvoy doesn’t have to worry about. The X-Men actor revealed his simple yet effective superstition: he says “White rabbit!” to the first person he sees each month. Although that interaction can be awkward, McAvoy doesn’t stop doing it because he claims it really does bring him good luck.

3. Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston’s superstitions aren’t too outrageous, but she does have one little ritual that helps her calm her fear of flying. “If I walk onto an airplane, I always have to go on with my right foot first and tap the outside of the plane,” the actress revealed in 2015. “I have always done it. For luck. Someone told me to do it, and I don’t remember when that was. But it has kind of stuck,” she added.

2. Kit Harington

Like several of the other stars on this list, some of Game of Thrones star Kit Harington’s superstitions have to do with flying. “Every time I get on a plane, I have to touch the outside of the plane three times before I get in.” He added that he has many other superstitious rituals, “I’m kind of OCD, actually … I have a few kind of lucky mascots. I’ve got a lucky pen — it’s one I’ve had since I was a kid, and I carry it everywhere. And I haven’t lost it yet, I’ve lost everything else.” While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Harington divulged his weirdest superstition. “I’m horribly superstitious. I have OCDs galore, and really, like, nonsensical ones as well, I mean not that any of them make much sense.” When Fallon asked for an example, Harington stated, “I have to scratch my balls every time I see an ambulance. Apparently someone said it is good luck for the person inside. And I thought that was a nice thing.”

1. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is a very superstitious celebrity, and has been for awhile even if her beliefs are opposite traditional superstitions. For most, the number 13 is the unluckiest of numbers, but that isn’t the case for the singer. “I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My first album went gold in 13 weeks. My first No.1 song had a 13-second intro,” she explained to MTV about her lucky number. “Every time I’ve won an award I’ve been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section or row M, which is the 13th letter.” She added that she writes the number 13 on her hand before every every performance, and incorporates the number into her life whenever possible.
