Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are one of the most low-key celebrity couples out there, but that is what makes them so intriguing. The handsome Game of Thrones and Aquaman actor and the beloved former The Cosby Show actress have been together for quite some time now and have shared some really sweet moments of themselves and their family with fans on social media, but there is still so much to know about the stunning and talented pair and their romance. From a chance meeting to marriage and kids, here are 12 things you never knew about Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet’s relationship:

12. How They Met

Back in 2005, Momoa was just getting his career off the ground as Ronon Dex in Stargate: Atlantis after no one would take him seriously following his Baywatch role, when he met the love of his life, Lisa Bonet, thanks to some friends. “We met through mutual friends. But when I first met her, she didn’t know I was a stalker, but I was,” he joked. “I was with one of my best friends and when I turned around, and they were going to introduce us, literally like, FIREWORKS. She said, ‘Hi, I’m Lisa.’ And I said ‘Hi, I’m Jason’ and I turn around to my buddy like, freaking out. Inside, I was like a little girl and I deepened my voice and tried to pull it together. She definitely makes me shy.”

11. Love At First Sight

Due to his reaction, it is easy to tell that it was most definitely love at first sight for Momoa at least. The night they met there was some definite chemistry, and the actor revealed that he “convinced” her to take him home because he didn’t have a car and was living in a hotel at the time. She agreed and they technically had their first date that night when they went to Cafe 101 at his hotel, and if Momoa wasn’t sure if he was already in love or not, he was definitely sure once she ordered a Guinness. “We sat down, she ordered a Guinness, and that was it. I beyond love Guinness. We had Guinness and grits, and the rest is history,” he gushed to James Corden in an interview.

10. Lisa’s Take On Love

Lisa Bonet has always been a reclusive star which means a lot of information about their relationship comes from Momoa and his perspective, but in March 2018, the stunning actress gave an in-depth interview to PORTEREdit where she opened up about her love life and admitted for herself it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight. “I can’t say it was full-on from the moment we saw each other, but we have been together from the day that we met,” she admitted. “In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do. He basically picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, caveman style!” She also gushed about what really stands out about Jason compared to other men. “What’s cool about Jason is that he’s an alpha male who stands for love and family. And to circle back to my own wounds, having an absent father, then to be fully met by a man of that stature, is really incredible. Jason embodies a rare form of masculinity in this day and age – he’s a leader; he’s generous. Just in terms of charisma, physique, the right use of power, responsibility, work ethic, you can go down the line.”

9. Differences

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet often seem like a surprising couple to many, but they give truth to the cliche “opposites attract.” Bonet is 12 years old than Momoa and she was 37 and he was only 26 when they first met back in 2005, but it didn’t mean anything to the pair. As well as an age gap, the pair has a very noticeable height difference as well. Bonet is 5’2″ and Momoa is over a foot taller at 6’4″.

8. Co-Stars

While many celebrity couples meet on set, they don’t often work together afterward but Momoa and Bonet did. The two co-starred in 2014’s Road to Paloma, as on-screen lovers of course, but their real-life love didn’t make it any easier for the actor who revealed that working with his wife was actually challenging. “I always wanted to work with her. It’s funny though — she made me shy!”

7. Childhood Crush

Almost everyone develops childhood celebrity crushes, but not everyone gets to marry that crush! Given their 11 year age gap, Momoa actually grew up watching The Cosby Show and Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable on the series, and even then knew she was the woman he wanted to marry. “I was definitely… that was the first time when I was like, ‘I want that one. I want her. I’m going to get her,” he admitted of his crush while on Katie Couric’s show in 2014, but he didn’t let his wife know just how long he had been in love her until years later. “I didn’t tell her until after we had our two children. But I told her… ‘I kinda stalked ya. I was going to find ya.'”

6. Marriage and Kids

After meeting in 2005, the two began dating shortly after and two years later they welcomed their first child Lola Iolani Momoa. Only a few months after having their daughter, the pair were “married” on November 15, 2007, but it turns out it wasn’t an official wedding with a marriage license. It wasn’t until 10 years later in October 2017 that the pair obtained a marriage license and had a wedding at their California home, finally tying the knot officially. In late 2008, Bonet then confirmed that the pair were expecting another child when she was already seven months pregnant. “I’m seven months and I feel great. I’ve had a tremendous amount of energy, which is lucky, because I have a 14-month-old,” Bonet said at the time while revealing that she and Momoa were once again waiting to find out the sex of their baby. “I love the mystery and I trust the mystery about it. It adds a whole other component at the end.” On December 15, 2008, they welcomed their second child, a son named Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

5. Blended Family

Along with becoming a father when he and his wife welcomed their children, Momoa became a stepfather as well to Zoe Kravitz, Lisa Bonet’s first daughter with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz. Luckily, they are a very happy blended family and everyone gets along well which makes things even easier for Zoe. “It makes things so easy that my parents are still very close, they have so much love for each other,” she said in an interview. “My dad and my step-dad get along really well, and my dad loves and is close with my brother and sister. It’s really beautiful. As long as everyone can be in the same room together, and have love for each other, it’s totally healthy.”

4. Parenthood

Jason Momoa has admitted that he never intended to be an actor, but of all things he has said from a very young age, he always wanted to be a father. In a short film “Canvas of My Life,” Momoa stated, “My craft is storytelling. And then it happened. She came, my muse, the love of my life, my partner in crime. I fell stupid, crazy, madly in love with her and my wife gave me three beautiful, feral kids … And with them my dreams finally came true. I’m a father. I found my place, my home.”

3. Getting Down to Nature

When it comes to raising their family, Bonet and Momoa are probably the farthest thing from helicopter parents. They want their kids to experience everything hands-on and they live in a self-proclaimed “compound” type ranch where they have some animals as well as a teepee, skateboard ramps, and climbing walls and Momoa says the kids “run around barefoot all the time.” They also don’t give their kids too much TV time, Bonet revealed. “Well, we have a computer — we’re not that much in the stone age! I feel strongly about remaining as media-free as we can. I really want to cultivate my children’s imaginations. I love that they can go off and play for hours making paper airplanes,” she said.

2. Boundaries

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet have the benefit of being married to someone who is also a part of the entertainment industry, so they always understand what the other is going through, but there is one part of their work that Momoa tries to separate: he won’t watch her sex scenes. Momoa said he didn’t want his wife seeing his sex scenes on Game of Thrones and didn’t want to see hers on Ray Donovan either. “But I watched a couple scenes, so proud of her… it’s great,” he said. When the pair were invited to the screening of the first few Game of Thrones episodes, Momoa told his wife they weren’t going because of his particularly brutal sex scenes with co-star Emilia Clarke, but he later revealed Bonet ended up watching the series and absolutely loved it!

1. Key to Happiness

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet rarely speak out about their relationship, but as Momoa has become a bigger and bigger star, more press tours have meant more interviews and everyone wants to ask him about his famous wife. He loves to gush about her, and one of the most common questions is how they keep their marriage happy, especially as his schedule gets more and more demanding. The one thing the actor always says is that Bonet is just very, very funny, and the two bond over humor. The pair love to laugh together and, while they don’t watch a lot of TV, one of their favorites things to do together is to “curl up on the couch and watch SNL.”
