Fans of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise are well aware that the odds of these reality TV couples staying together aren’t great. Of course before they even get to being the final couple, there are a lot of breakups along the way as the Bachelor or Bachelorette tries to narrow down the pool of contestants in their quest for love. Fans have watched some awkward, heated and tense exchanges play out on camera, in interviews afterwards and often in the media. Here are the 10 nastiest Bachelor nation breakups of all time!

10. Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado

With over 20 seasons now aired, fans may have a hard time remembering season six Bachelor Byron Velvick. The pro bass fisherman ended up choosing Mary Delgado and the duo went on to have a whole lot of ups and downs. They were on and off for five years and then things got really bad in 2007 when Delgado was arrested for allegedly assaulting Velvick. Despite the incident, the two stayed together for two more years but after five years, a lot of fights, and the arrest, they finally split in 2009.

9. Nick Viall and Andi Dorfman

Fans of The Bachelor have seen Nick’s relationship with Andi Dorfman extend past her season of The Bachelorette where Nick would become runner-up to Josh Murray. Coming so close to winning and then being rejected is hard, but the pair made it even harder on each other. During the After the Final Rose special, Nick embarrassed Andi when he told everyone that they had slept together in the fantasy suite and asked her why she had done that if she didn’t love him. Later, when she released her memoir, she made remarks suggesting that Nick’s love-making skills just weren’t very good and helped her to realize she didn’t want to be with him. Although they threw a couple of low-blows at each other, Nick has since apologized and the two seem amicable and she even appeared on his season of The Bachelor.

8. Matt Grant and Shayne Lamas

It seems more often than not the leading man or lady and the contestants become blinded by the atmosphere of the show make decisions they never would in real life. When it comes to regrets about relationships on the show, few have been more mean than Matt Grant when it came to Shayne Lamas. Lamas ended up winning the 12th season when Grant proposed at the end of the season, but things didn’t end with a happily ever after. In a special for the series The Bachelor: Then & Now, Grant said many hurtful things about his ex-fiancee and their time on the show. “Did I find true love on the show? Um, no. Not one little bit. I proposed to a woman who was about a foot and a half shorter than me, who had nothing in common with me, and thought there were palm trees in London. Did I make a mistake? Yes. Did I look like an idiot? Yes. Do I regret it? A little bit.”

7. Juan Pablo and Clare Crawley

There have been many extremely dramatic and downright awkward exits when it comes to one of the the Bachelors or Bachelorettes deciding to say goodbye to someone they had seemingly been getting close to. One of those dramatic exits came in Juan Pablo’s season when he decided to let Clare Crawley go home after it seemed things were going well for the pair. Instead of saving her tears, Clare ripped into Juan Pablo for his behavior and didn’t even let him hug her as she said, “But what you just made me go through, I would never want my children having a father like you.”

6. Michael Stagliano and Holly Durst and Blake Julian

Michael Stagliano and Holly Durst have a very complicated Bachelor Nation history. The pair won their season of Bachelor Pad, but that didn’t stop Holly from falling for fellow contestant Blake Julian. The biggest on-camera blow when Michael found out on live television that Holly and Blake were engaged. Afterwards Holly said, “I was thinking, ‘Well, at least I will be able to tell him before the show so he isn’t blindsided.’ But I wasn’t allowed to speak to him prior to walking out on stage. As soon as I sat down, I whispered that I needed to talk badly and then the bomb was dropped almost immediately. He was blindsided. That was the lowest thing they could have done for ratings.”

5. Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson

Season 16 of The Bachelor was especially dramatic as Ben Flajnik eventually chose Courtney Robertson who had become the season’s “villain.” Robertson’s attitude rubbed everyone the wrong way it seems, except for Flajnik, but the dramatics continued once the cameras turned off as the two then took a break from their engagement, got back together and finally broke up for real. Afterwards Ben said that “she just had me fooled,” and realized Courtney wasn’t the woman he thought she was. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ben was caught making out with three different women in one weekend, and then Courtney released a memoir titled “I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends,” which only added fuel to the fire.

4. Amanda Stanton and Josh Murray

Despite nearly everyone’s warnings, former Bachelor contestant Amanda Stanton fell for Andi Dorfman’s ex-fiance Josh Murray on Bachelor in Paradise. While on the show, Murray was confronted with all of Dorfman’s accusations about him being controlling and abusive, and still Stanton paid no attention and, after the show wrapped, Murray made plans to move in with Stanton and her daughters and everything seemed picture perfect. After a short split and reconciliation, however, things got ugly when the pair broke up again in March of 2017. According to reports, Stanton wouldn’t give Murray his car back and he called the cops on her, but Stanton called the whole story from Murray’ “personal assistant” a lie, saying not only does he not even have a personal assistant, there was much more to the car story than that. “He’s the worst. Everybody warned me,” she finally said after the split.

3. Jason Mesnick and Melissa Rycroft

If the shows themselves haven’t had enough iconic moments and dramatic breakups, the After the Final Rose specials have been nothing short of jaw-dropping at times. Back in season 13 of The Bachelor, it seems Jason Mesnick and Melissa Rycroft were going to ride off into the sunset after becoming engaged on the season finale, that is until he pulled one of the most shocking After the Rose twists ever. After waiting months while the season aired, Mesnick waited until the special to drop the bombshell on Rycroft that he “made the wrong choice” and dumped her only to say he wanted to actually be with his runner-up Molly Malaney. It was nothing short of cold-hearted for Mesnick to pull the move on live television and a stunned Rycroft just said, “You’re such a bastard.” Despite the horrendous breakup, Jason is still happily married to Molly, and Rycroft has found love with husband Tye Strickland.

2. Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi

It may have been many seasons ago, but Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi’s horribly awkward After the Final Rose interview still stands out to fans. After becoming engaged at the end of The Bachelor‘s 14th season, it seemed Jake had found love with Vienna. Only a few months later, however, the pair broke up and the mud-slinging began. Things got ugly fast as the two had a tense encounter on Bachelor Pad and finally just bashed each other continuously in their sit down with Chris Harrison on After the Final Rose. Vienna called Jake a “fame whore” while he insisted she was horrible to him and “undermines him, emasculates and doesn’t respect him.”

1. Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray

Josh Murray and Andi Dorfman have become somewhat infamous after their stint on The Bachelorette’s 10th season. After a lot of drama, Dorfman picked Murray and the pair became seemingly happily engaged at the end of the show. Only a few months later the pair called their whole engagement and relationship off amid reports of strife between the two. Fans had no idea how tumultuous their relationship was until Dorfman released her memoir “It’s Not Okay: Turning Heartbreak Into Happily Ever After.” In the explosive book, Dorfman accused Murray of being controlling, emotionally abusive and called her relationship with him “the most volatile and f–ked up relationship of her my life.” Her accusations against Murray were shocking, and while he denied all of them, after his split with Amanda Stanton, Murray’s true colors have been made even more clear.
