10 Most Over-the-Top Bachelor/Bachelorette Entrances

Whatever happened to just getting out of the limo and giving the Bachelor/Bachelorette your best smile? These days, it seems everyone on the venerable matchmaking show is trying to one-up each other when it comes to making a memorable first impression. But more often than not, these highly contrived entrances end up falling flat—sometimes even literally. We’ve rounded up 12 of the craziest, most memorable, over-the-top contestant entrances in The Bachelor and Bachelorette history. Would you have given these contestants a rose?

10. Jef Holm (The Bachelorette Season 8: Emily Maynard’s Season)

Actually, this entrance was pretty cute. Hipster entrepreneur, Jef Holm, rode in on a skateboard, showing off his fun-loving, boyish side. Bachelorette Emily Maynard loved it and eventually picked him in the end.

9. Kalon McMahon (The Bachelorette Season 8: Emily Maynard’s Season)

In sharp contrast with Jef Holm’s modest skateboard entrance, luxury brand consultant, Kalon McMahon arrived in a helicopter, callously not caring about the fact that he was messing up everyone’s meticulously coiffed hairdos with the wind he stirred up. Interestingly, this was one case where money didn’t buy love, and Jeff with his lowly skateboard went all the way to the end, while Kalon was kicked to the curb in week five.

8. Ben Scott (The Bachelorette Season 9: Desiree Hartsock’s Season )

Over the course of the past 11 seasons of The Bachelorette, many of its contestants have been dads, but Ben Scott was the first (and so far, the only) dad to bring his son with him to the first episode. Way to pull on the heartstrings, Ben! But it wasn’t enough to earn him the first impression rose, and poor Ben was eliminated in week five.

7. Larry Burchett (The Bachelorette Season 9: Desiree Hartsock’s Season)

Then there was hapless ER doctor, Larry Burchett, who tried to dance with Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock, but messed up on the dip, ripping her dress. The poor guy got voted off later that night. Note to future Bachelorette contestants: unless your name is Derek Hough, squash the impulse to show off your inner Fred Astaire on the first day.

6. Tara Eddings (The Bachelor Season 19: Chris Soules’ Season)

Country girl, Tara Eddings, actually did something cool when she emerged from the limo wearing a plaid shirt, denim shorts and boots instead of the typical evening dress, showing Bachelor farmer Chris Soules who she really was from the get-go. Unfortunately, she ruined that first impression by getting sloppy drunk later in the evening.

5. Jeff Medolla (Bachelorette Season 7: Ashley Hebert’s Season)

This guy wore a Zorro mask to make his first impression—and kept it on for two whole episodes, leading many to wonder what he was hiding. A teardrop tattoo? A hairy mole, perhaps? Although there didn’t turn out to be anything wrong with his face, Ashley obviously didn’t feel a connection, and sent him packing in week three.

4. Chris Strandburg (The Bachelorette Season 11: Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Season)

This dentist made one of the tackiest entrances ever, cruising up the driveway of the Bachelorette mansion in a custom cupcake mobile. For the rest of the season, he was known as Chris “Cupcake”—and yes, he was as sweet as his name suggested. But his love of Disney musicals and his willingness to wear his emotions on his sleeve weren’t enough for Kaitlyn to take him to the end.

3. Reegan Cornwell (The Bachelor Season 19: Chris Soules’s Season)

Reegan Cornwell, a cadaver tissue saleswoman (wait…what???), handed Bachelor Chris Soules a cooler containing a bloody heart. At least it was fake, but still…ew.

2. Robyn Howard (Bachelor Season 17: Sean Lowe’s Season)

This woman emerged from the limo, looking elegant in a sparkly silver evening gown, and then launched into a double back handspring—losing it on the second backflip and flopping on to the ground. Not so elegant anymore, the oil field account manager nevertheless charmed her way into Bachelor Sean Lowe’s heart and he kept her around for a while, sending her home in week five.

1. Kaitlyn Bristowe (The Bachelor Season 19: Chris Soules’s Season)

Kaitlyn Bristowe, who we all know went on to get her own season of The Bachelorette, made quite an impression on Bachelor Chris Soules and all of Bachelor Nation when, upon exiting the limo, she told farmer Chris that he could “plow the f— out of her field any day,” leaving Chris literally speechless. It may have been one of the most awkward entrances ever, but the dance instructor from Canada made it impressively far on Chris’s Season and her candidness won the hearts of (most of) America, who lobbied for her to be the next Bachelorette.
