Unbelievably, it has already been over four months since the internet exploded and teenage hearts broke everywhere when one-fifth of One Direction, Zayn Malik, announced he had officially left the band.

At the time, Malik had been making headlines on his own as rumors swirled that he had cheated on his fiancee Perrie Edwards, causing him to respond back via twitter confirming he loves her and he’s “sorry for what it looks like.”

Along with that were the rumors he was branching out on his own and inevitably the news of his departure seemed to confirm those suspicions; however, at the time he stated, “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”

Malik is definitely singing a different tune now, as he has continously been recording since leaving the band and has now officially signed with RCA Records, confirming he was in fact looking for his own spotlight all along. “I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA,” he wrote on Twitter before sharing a photo of signing to the label along with “#REALME.”

Although it seems he took a little jab at One Direction with his “real music” hashtage, Simon Cowell took the time to congratulate Malik, who he selected to be a part of One Direction. “We have been working on this for a while and I am pleased to say congratulations to @Zaynmalik on signing with @RCARecords. I believe they are the perfect label for @ZaynMakik’s solo career and I am sure whatever they release together will be special,” Cowell wrote on Twitter.
