Shannen Doherty has a bold, beautiful new look as she battles breast cancer.
The 45-year-old actress first revealed she had cancer in September 2015. In an interview with People, the Charmed and Beverly Hills 90210 actress said she was undergoing medical treatment, and was trying to stay as positive as she could. “I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life,” she said. “I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.”
In February, she shared more details about her treatment options, and said she was considering undergoing a mastectomy to remove the cancer. On an episode of Dr. Oz, Doherty had a realistic view of what matters most in her life. “Ultimately, they’re just breasts right?” she stated on the show. “I mean, I love them, they’re mine, they’re beautiful, but in the grand scheme of things, I would rather be alive and I would rather grow old with my husband [Kurt Iswarienko].”
As Doherty continues with her treatment, she decided it was time to chop her locks. On Tuesday night, the actress posted a series of Instagram photos that documented the moment. Doherty is seen going through the stages of cutting her hair as her mother, Rosa, and her friend Anne Kortright-Shilstat offer encouragement.
After the cut, Kortright-Shilstat shared words of support for Doherty. “I couldn’t be prouder of you today. Your strength and courage is so inspiring and I am so very lucky to have you in my life,” she shared on Instagram. “Thank you for blindly trusting me today to help you with such a big step. I will forever be there for you no matter what. #f–kcancer.”
