It has been just over a year since Bobbi Kristina Brown’s tragic death at the age of 22, and more surprising news is coming forward as her family continues to seek justice in her death.

Now her former boyfriend, Nick Gordon, has been found “legally responsible” in Bobbi Kristina’s death. According to multiple reports, Gordon was found responsible only because he failed to appear in court on Friday, September 16. “Fulton County Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford ruled today that Nick Gordon is legally responsible for Bobbi Kristina Brown’s death after the defendant failed to appear in court,” a statement reads. “A jury will determine the amount of damages to be awarded to Brown’s conservator.”

According to court documents filed by Bobbi Kristina’s conservator Bedelia Hargrove, “Ms. Brown died due to a violent altercation with [Gordon] after which he placed her in a bathtub, unconscious, after he injected her with a toxic mixture.” Gordon has continuously denied he had anything to do with her death.

In a statement, Bobbi Kristina’s estate said, “In court today, we finally finished a long journey for justice for Bobbi Kristina Brown. The court agrees with us, by striking Mr. Gordon’s answer, that he is legally responsible for her death. The only thing left to prove is the value of her life. We intend to do that.” Bobbi Kristina’s aunt also spoke out, saying,  “It’s been a long time. They should have been gotten him. He should have been arrested,” she said of Gordon. “He’s ignorant; he’s arrogant. He thinks he’s above the law. He’s not.”
