After posting a heart-warming Instagram photo of herself in her younger years with her father to honor Father’s Day, fans noticed a comment Lucy Hale made regarding her weight and they did not take it lightly.

Along with the sweet caption “You have taught me to have soul. I love you daddy,” she added a remark in the comments section stating, “Ugh I was so fat.” Her comment rubbed many people the wrong way and her fans were not shy to immediately react to her body shaming comment.

“‘Fat’? You look a healthy size. Joking or not, you should be aware of your audience and recognize that kids look up to you and when trying to emulate you they could possibly be looking in the mirror saying ‘ugh, I’m so fat,'” one commenter wrote.

Others have supported Hale as one fan stated, “Why can’t people just understand that everyone has insecurities, what’s the difference between someone not famous and someone famous saying that they feel fat in something?” another commenter wrote.

The Pretty Little Liars actress reacted to the situation as well and took to Twitter to apologize if she offended anyone with her comments. She wrote, “Sometimes I forget that people are watching everything I do and I say things I don’t mean. I’m extremely sorry if my comment about my weight offended anyone,” she wrote. “Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. I know people look up to me and I should be way more aware of what I say sometimes.”

She concluded her post by expressing her gratitude for her fans, “Thanks for all the love and support. Hope y’all can forgive me!”

You taught me to have soul. I love you daddy.
