It seems like a lifetime ago that Justin Timberlake was best known as the frontman for the boy band *NSYNC.

After topping the charts with the group through the ’90s and early 2000s, Timberlake took his leave at the height of the band’s success and embarked on his own solo career which has brought him more success than he ever could have imagined.

Over the years Timberlake as well as his former bandmates Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick have discussed their time in the group and going their separate ways, but in Timberlake’s most recent interview, he had no problem explaining why he really left the group. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake explained further what pushed him to leave *NSYNC. “We were on a stadium tour, and I just felt like the whole thing was too big. It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche.”

Instead of leaving it there, he added, “And, also, I was growing out of it. I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart.”

Of course, with so much solo success, which includes a music and acting career, Timberlake probably isn’t all that bothered by how the rest of *NSYNC will react to his words.
