There was a lot to talk about following the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 31 and one of the major topics of conversation was the fact Justin Bieber seemingly moved himself to tears following his performance.

Of course seeing Bieber cry is a hot topic for both fans and haters of the 21-year-old singer and, while on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Sept. 2, he explained why he broke down.

“It was just so overwhelming for me, everything, just the performance – I missed some cues so I was a little disappointed at that – and just everyone, just their support. Honestly, I just wasn’t expecting them to support me the way they did… Last time I was at an award show I was booed.”

He went on to tell Fallon that the pressure was what overwhelmed him the most after just releasing a new song he wanted people to like and, of course, not wanting to be booed again. “I’ve worked so hard on this album, I’ve worked so hard at becoming the man I want to become. Stepping into situations, you just can’t help but feel judged, so I was just feeling judged and just wanting to win so badly and wanting to do what I love so badly that I just put everything on the line. What was just so special about the emotional moment at the end; it was just authentic, it was real.”

Bieber also commented on his past troubles and the “knuckleheads” around him at the time, and now we’re just waiting for him to explain that VMAs hairstyle. Check out Bieber’s interview below!
