Hilary Duff is lookin’ and feelin’ better than ever. The former child actress is now a hardworking, 27 year old mother and the perfect cover gal for Elle Canada. She opened up, and offered complete candor during her interview, assuring us all that she is a well-adjusted woman.

Hilary Duff is Lizzie McGuire no more, but she says she still feels like a kid. “A kid with a kid.” Hearing her say that is such a relief. That’s how most young parents with humble bones describe their experience. Hilary is currently raising her son, Luca, with her estranged husband, Mike Comrie, though the two are on good terms. And… Hilary has no substance abuse problems. Repeat: No problems. Awesome.

She’s going to work everyday, enjoying her return to the hustle of the industry and trying to avoid questions about her teenage love, Aaron Carter.

That poor Carter family has been through it, haven’t they? Aaron, now 26, soon to be 27, is still struggling to get over Hilary, who he believes is his soulmate. Well, at least that’s what he’s been saying via social media. Which… if you’re 27 (yes, you, reader), don’t do that. (It’s really quite desperate. It doesn’t seem powerfully urgent. Save those moments for the one-on-one, you dig?)

Hilary’s take on the Aaron Carter thing? That was half a lifetime ago. Hilary believes it’s time to “move on.” Everyone–except Aaron–concurs with her sentiment.

When asked about Aaron, Hilary told Elle the following: “Oh, God, I feel so uncomfortable right now. I don’t know what to say. The more I talk about it, the more I think he’s going to talk about it. We were like 13 and 14…. I don’t want him to be hurt—I don’t want to make anyone feel like that—but it’s time to move on. I have,” she reveals.

Up next for Hilary is the new comedy series Younger, c0-starring Sutton Foster, as well as the comedy feature film, Flock of Dudes.
