UPDATE: After much speculation, on Tuesday, May 16 during ABC’s Upfronts event, ABC president Channing Dungey announced that Roseanne was officially getting revived. “We’re rebooting Roseanne. It is planned for the mid-season. We’re still at the early stages.

The press release added the series will find the Conners still dealing with “the economic challenges of living pay check to pay check in 2018.” “The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant – and hilarious – today as they were then, and there’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne,” Dungey said in a statement.

In the time of huge TV reboots and revivals, this may be the biggest one yet! Reports from Deadline and Variety state that one of TV’s most popular family sitcoms could be making a comeback.

According to the reports, ABC’s hit ’90s series Roseanne is currently in talks for an eight-episode limited series revival while Variety confirms that the series’ stars Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, and Sara Gilbert are all very much on board for the revival.

The limited series is in the process of being shopped to both broadcast networks and streaming services, but things are well underway with Tom Werner and Bruce Helford allegedly returning as executive producers while Barr and Gilbert will also serve as executive producers.

Originally airing from 1988-1997, Roseanne remains one of the most beloved and popular blue-collar comedies on TV and is known for its realistic and believable portrayal of the average working-class American family.

Back in March, Goodman and Gilbert who played father and daughter on the series, had a mini reunion on Gilbert’s daytime series “The Talk” where they did a small skit portraying their beloved Roseanne characters. When asked about a reboot, Goodman was very enthusiastic, stating, “Oh, hell yes… if we could get everyone together. The Big R [Barr] and I did a pilot about five years ago that didn’t go anywhere…but we were very happy to work together.” Gilbert added, she “would” do a reboot but said, “Your only fear is you don’t want to do a bad version, because you don’t want to damage what’s been done.”
