High-profile model, Chrissy Teigen, has quit the social media site Twitter, after posting a controversial tweet that caused many to attack her online.

After a shooting in Canada’s capital, Ottawa, at the National War Memorial which left a soldier and a gunman dead, Teigen made a tweet about gun control which was in poor taste in the opinion of many.

After the shooting on Wednesday, Teigen Tweeted, “active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in america, wednesday,” a Tweet that was re-Tweeted more than one thousand times.

It also set off a huge social media outrage including some sending the model death threats and as well as accusing her of minimizing the severity of the shooting in Ottawa.

After receiving the backlash, she continued to defend her Tweet, “Sorry you don’t understand that is a knock at america and our issues with gun control. No one is minimizing the Ottawa shooting,” as well as, “It’s been awhile since I inadvertently pissed a ton of people off. Forgot how much it sucks.”

The criticism against her did not cease as she was even accused of playing “into the dumb model stereotype” by news anchors and she finally just gave up Twitter for the time being.

“I can’t see anything through the sea of hate and anger that is now my Twitter. Seriously I can’t sift through it all.” “I feel sick. Bye Twitter. Taking my talents to instagram,” she finally Tweeted Thursday as her final message.
