22 Most Memorable Met Gala Outfits From The Past

There are several major fashion events in the world of celebrities but one of the biggest of all is the annual Met Gala. Monday, May 1 saw 2017’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala take place and as always the styles ranged from amazing to wacky and everything in between. To the star’s credit this year’s theme, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons, was particularly tricky leading to some celebrities going full out with the designer Comme des Garcons or choosing something a little more subtle. Here are the 8 best dressed stars from the event:

8. Gisele Bundchen

Many took issue with supermodel Gisele Bundchen’s Met Gala look, but there is no doubt it was stunning. Unlike many, Bundchen chose a much more simple look with a long-sleeved Stella McCartney silver gown with oblique-baring cutouts. She matched the long gown with Neil Lane jewlery and a simple updo. Perhaps not as avant-garde as it could have or should have been for the event, but nonetheless still gorgeous!

7. Blake Lively

Blake Lively is one of those stars who can wear just about anything and make it look amazing, so she often finds herself on the best dressed list. Aside from the fact the actress and her husband Ryan Reynolds are always one of the cutest couples at any event they attend, Lively look radiant all by herself in a plunging Atelier Versace gold gown. The dress was nowhere as out there as some of the night’s other looks, but kept it fashion forward with cascading epaulets down the entire body and sleeves ending a fun yet low-key blue ombre feather fringe.

6. Katie Holmes

Slowly but surely Kate Holmes is coming out from hiding, and are we ever appreciative! The much missed and gorgeous actress attended the Met Gala and made jaws drop in her gown created by world famous designer Zac Posen. The dark navy off the shoulder gown was anything but simple with a lined bodice, ruched shoulders and a matching rouched train which added some flare. On top if it all, Holmes also rocked some serious diamonds and matching dark makeup, completing the amazing look.

5. Zendaya

Zendaya has never shied away from bold looks which makes the Met Gala the perfect place for her. The singer and actress was show-stopping in a eye-catching avian-themed Dolce & Gabbana ball gown. Very few could pull off this tropical print featuring flowers, bold colors, parrots, and an off-the shoulder style, but along with her natural afro, Zendaya makes the entire thing not only look amazing but actually effortless.

4. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson has always been fun to watch on red carpets as she usually chooses casual and comfortable over anything flashy. She once again opted for a very low-key look for the Met Gala, but it most definitely worked! Hudson donned a one-shoulder pure white Stella McCartney gown, but at the risk of being too boring, she took the look to a whole other level with her match completely white updo and one single dangling Lorraine Schwartz diamond earring.

3. Gigi Hadid

One of the stars who stepped out of the box but still looked amazing was supermodel Gigi Hadid. Much like most of the other stars on this list, Hadid can wear anything and look fantastic and she definitely proved that in her nude shaded custom Tommy Hilfiger gown. The model balanced the best of being sexy, dressing for the theme and bringing an extra avant garde look with her off the shoulder strap and high thigh garters.

2. Lily Rose Depp

Lily Rose Depp fully stepped out of her famous father’s shadow last year as she officially launched her modeling and acting careers, and she continued to make a statement at the 2017 Met Gala. As the face of Chanel cosmetics it isn’t surprising Depp chose a Chanel Haute Couture dress for the big night. She donned a hot pink strapless number complete with a hiked up waist, and floral decals to spruce things up. The pop of color was much needed in the sea of silver, black, and white outfits, and her makeup looked absolutely incredible!

1. Selena Gomez

The 2017 Met Gala was a big night for Selena Gomez. Not only was it one of the few major events she has attended since taking time off for her personal health last year, it marked her official debut with boyfriend The Weeknd. On top of it all the singer had one of the most stunning looks of the night, although not as flashy as some. Gomez opted for a soft pink chiffon Coach slip dress which was extremely tame for the event but in a theme where seemingly anything goes, there was absolutely nothing wrong with toning it down. The plunging neckline and front slit gave her extra chic points, and she certainly glammed it up with a choker and magenta eyeshadow.
