Fame10 Fashion Evolution: Mila Kunis

Everyone loves Mila Kunis. Men want to date her and women want to be her. She has this beautiful, exotic look and a figure to die for. Since breaking out thanks to her role in “Black Swan,” this television-turned-movie actress has really upped her red carpet game. Before this, she would settle on jeans for events, but not anymore. Now she dresses to the nines. Like Jennifer Aniston, she has a thing for black, but the actually suits her. With those smoldering eyes and luscious dark hair, a sleek black dress goes a lot further on her than it would on most. Because she’s such a stunner, let’s take a look at Mila Kunis’ fashion evolution!

Premiere of Slackers – 2002

Mila Kunis attended the premiere of Slackers wearing a denim jacket, a pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a pair of platform shoes. She used to dress this way a lot when she went out. Rather than put on a cute dress, she threw a jean jacket/blazer on with a matching pair of jeans. We hope that she cringes when she sees these photos – what she’s wearing is just so unbelievably unfashionable, we’re embarrassed for her.

In 2002, Kunis was still a struggling actress. Although she had found success on television shows like “That ‘70s Show” and “Family Guy,” she was still having trouble breaking into the movies. She had a starring role in “American Psycho 2,” which was panned by critics,” and a film adaptation of “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding.” According to DVD Talk, “fans would be much better off pretending [Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding] never happened in the first place.” Ouch!

DVD Party for Family Guy’s Stewie Griffin The Untold Story – 2005

The “That ‘70s Show” actress upped her game at the DVD Party for Family’s Stewie Griffin The Untold Story. She paired some jeans with a blue top, a black blazer, a pair of heels and a black purse. She looks like she’s also learned how to do her makeup. When she puts a tiny bit of effort into her appearance, it goes a long way.

“Family Guy” was one of Kunis’ biggest successes at this point. According to Seth MacFarlane, she was a natural. “What Mila Kunis brought to it was, in a lot of ways, I thought, almost more right for the character. I say that Lacey did a phenomenal job, but there was something about Mila – something very natural about Mila. She was 15 when she started, so you were listening to a 15-year-old. Often times with animation they’ll have adult actors doing the voices of teenagers and they always sound like Saturday morning voices. They sound often times very forced. She had a very natural quality to Meg that really made what we did with that character kind of really work,” he said.

That ‘70s Show Series Finale Party – 2006

Mila Kunis rocked this bluish-purple cocktail dress at the “That ‘70s Show” Series Finale Party. She paired the dress with some strappy heels. MIla simply hadn’t looked this good before – it was a new beginning. On the red carpet, she looks great in a fitted cocktail dress with her long dark hair blown out.

At this point, Kunis had been dating child actor Macaulay Culkin for a few years. “We grew up together. You find a steady rock in your life and that’s all you need,” she said. “We have our ups and downs, but work through them.” While she seemed pretty into Culkin, many considered these two mismatched – even Russell Brand. When he found out that she was dating “Mac,” as she called him, he was mortified. “Then when he came it wasn’t Mac – it was Macaulay Culkin. He’d got longer and looked pale and scared of himself, like a shaved horse,” Brand said. “There was a horror about him and I thought, ‘You can’t f**k him – that’s the lad from Home Alone!’”

World Premiere of Forgetting Sarah Marshall – 2008

The television turned movie actress wore this purple maxi dress, which featured blue detailing, to the world premiere of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” We must say that we think that she looked pretty sultry – a look that definitely works well for her and one that we think we will be seeing more of.

“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is what really launched Mila Kunis’s movie career. The critics raved about her performance. Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal praised her “fresh beauty and focused energy” while James Berardinelli noted that she is “adept with her performance and understands the concept of comic timing.” Kunis success in the film led to more roles. She had a role in “Extract, alongside Ben Affleck and Jason Bateman, and “The Book of Eli,” which co-starred Denzel Washington. Her performances kept receiving positive reviews, which helped her to establish a reputation as a beautiful but highly skilled actress.

61st Primetime Emmy Awards – 2009

Mila Kunis looked absolutely lovely at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards. She wore this burgundy, layered-tulle Monique Lhuillier dress with Fred Leighton jewels, bronze Ferragamo python pumps and a VBH clutch. This is definitely her best look yet. She obviously found herself a good stylist!

Kunis was learning to do all kinds of things at this point. Not only was she killing it on the red carpet, she was finally beginning to embrace her life as an actress. “I didn’t come to L.A. to become a famous actress. I lived in L.A. and I was an actress, and it was just like, Who am I? I loved what I did, but I didn’t like the judgment that came with it. It took me until I was 21 to realize that this is what I was going to do. I finally decided I’m not going to be embarrassed to write ‘actress’ on my medical forms,” she told Blackbook Magazine.

Premiere of Black Swan – 2010

The budding movie star turned heads at the Los Angeles premiere of “Black Swan” in this black silk chiffon dress by Oscar de la Renta. No one else looks quite as good in black as she does. She does sultry to perfection.

Mila’s role as the rival ballet dancer, Lily, was her breakout role. She worked pretty hard for it too. She underwent a training regime that included cardio, a 1,200 calorie per day diet and ballet classes for four hours a day. She ended up losing 20 pounds for the role, which brought her down to 95 pounds. Critics were impressed with her performance. Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Kunis makes a perfect alternate to Portman, equally as lithe and dark but a smirk of self-assurance in place of Portman’s wide-eyed fearfulness.” Guy Lodge of In Contention also praised Kunis. “[I]t’s the cool, throaty-voiced Kunis who is the surprise package here, intelligently watching and reflecting her co-star in such a manner that we’re as uncertain as Nina of her ingenuousness,” he wrote. Kunis received nominations from the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild for her performance in the film.

Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards – 2011

The “Black Swan” actress wore a Givenchy Pre-Fall 2011 ensemble to Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards. The outfit consisted of an armadillo print blouse with a matching skirt, as well as nude Christian Louboutin ‘Lady Peep’ heels and C. Greene jewels and a coral Bottega Veneta leather mini clutch.

Mila Kunis’ career was continuing to take off in 2011. She had a role in “Friends with Benefits,” alongside Justin Timberlake, and Ted, which co-starred Mark Wahlberg. According to Kunis, she actually considered quitting acting when she was 20 because she had earned enough money from “That ‘70s Show” to live comfortably for the rest of her life. “I was like, ‘I’m OK. I can go do other things now.’ I wanted to rethink my life for a minute because I didn’t think acting could be a career. This is the worst industry you can put yourself in because there’s no security whatsoever…I was just like, ‘Can I really do this for the rest of my life?’”

Premiere of Ted – 2012

Mila Kunis wore this black risqué Christian Dior dress, which featured a plunging mesh neckline and a peplum waist. She accessorized with Dior jewels and aqua blue Christian Louboutin stilettos. We don’t think this is one of her better red carpet looks, but it is still a pass. She could do worse.

After breaking up with Macaulay Culkin in early 2011, Kunis spent the rest of the year single. She was linked to Justin Timberlake, her co-star from “Friends with Benefits;” however, there wasn’t much to corroborate this except for a couple of pictures that were hacked from the actress’ phone. Timberlake reportedly broke up with Jessica Biel so that he could have a shot with Kunis, but it didn’t really lead anywhere, so he quickly went back to Biel. In early 2012, the former “That ‘70s Show” actress surprised everyone by hooking up with her former co-star from the show, Ashton Kutcher.

World Premiere of Oz: The Great and Powerful – 2013

The “Ted” star looked stunning at the world premiere of “Oz: The Great and Powerful.” She rocked this sleeveless lace embroidered Dolce & Gabana dress, which featured a chiffon skirt. She accessorized with silver Christian Louboutin ‘Angelique’ peep-toes and violet Sutra earrings.

By 2013, Mila Kunis was full on dating Ashton Kutcher – there was nothing casual about it. He finally filed for divorce from Demi Moore, which meant only one thing: He was trying to make himself available to marry his former co-star. In interviews, Kunis had started to talk about starting a family. “The truth is I don’t think I can do this for the rest of my life, I also want a life. I want a family, like, one day, not tomorrow,” she told Playboy magazine. “I want to be a present mom. When I was growing up both my mom and dad worked full-time in one location. I’m never in the same place for more than two months. How am I ever going to have a family like that? You have to make compromises.”

MTV Movie Awards – 2014

Mila Kunis didn’t go all out for the 2014 MTV Movie Awards. She wore a mini-dress by Thakoon, which featured a subtle inserts of lace, a pleated skirt and a scalloped hem. The dress did what it was designed to do – hide her growing baby bump. Around the same time that the public figured out that she was engaged to Ashton Kutcher, we also found out that they were expecting a child together.

For years, Kunis has been considered the perfect woman. In 2013, she was chosen as FHM’s “Sexiest Woman.” “Not only is [Mila] naturally stunning, but she has a great sense of humor and isn’t afraid to poke fun at herself. The nation has spoken, and the verdict is that she is officially the perfect girlfriend,” FHM’s editor Dan Jude said. We wonder how everyone felt about her being taken by Kutcher? Hopefully this didn’t ruin anyone’s fantasy!

Premiere of Jupiter Ascending – 2015

The new mom showed off her post-baby body at the premiere of “Jupiter Ascending.” She donned this black strapless Dolce & Gabana dress with Christian Louboutin ‘Tiny’ lace sandals and Gemfields jewels. This kind of dress is pretty typical of her style, but it works. We just wish she’d take a risk every so often.

It looks like Mila Kunis actually married Ashton Kutcher; however, no one knows when. We should have expected this from her. In an interview with W Magazine, she basically said that she and Kutcher were planning to marry secretly. “I never wanted to get married. From the age of 12, I prepared my parents for no marriage. Then things changed – I found the love of my life. Now my theory on weddings is: Don’t invite anyone. Do it privately and secretly. My parents are okay with that. They’re just excited that I said yes,” she said.
