Hollywood’s 7 Most Tragic Love Stories!

Some couples in Hollywood are just so perfect together and their love stories are so compelling but, because of tragic circumstances, these couples cannot be together. We have a list of 7 of the most tragic love stories in Hollywood. Get a box of tissue – these stories are sad!

7. Natasha McElhone and Dr. Martin Hirigoyen Kelly

Natasha McElhone – best known for her role as Karen in “Californication” –  had been married to Dr. Martin Hirigoyen Kelly since 1998. In 2008, while McElhone was pregnant with the couple’s third child, Kelly suddenly died of heart failure, one day after the couple’s tenth wedding anniversary. Since his death, McElhone has continued to write letters to her late husband, which are compiled in her book “After You: Letters of Love, and Loss to a Husband and Father.”

6. John Ritter and Amy Yasbeck

John Ritter and Amy Yasbeck met back in the 1990s when they were filming “Problem Child.” The two went on to marry and have two children together. Sadly, in 2003, Ritter died on set of  “8 simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter” of an aortic dissection.

The day that Ritter died also happened to be their daughter Stella’s birthday. Yasbeck has since wrote the book “With Love and Laughter, John Ritter” detailing Ritter’s death and her experience as a widow.

5. Brittany Murphy and Simon Monjack

After a string of failed romances, in 2007, Brittany Murphy finally found love with Simon Monjack! Sadly this romance was short-lived. In 2009, Murphy died in the couple’s West Hollywood home of acute pneumonia, severe anemia and multiple drug intoxication.

Monjack was heartbroken over losing Murphy and, within six months of her death, he was found dead in the couple’s home. The autopsy report said that Monjack had also died of acute pneumonia and severe anemia.

4. Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi

Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi had been married for 34 years when he died of pancreatic cancer back in 2009. News that the renowned actor was battling cancer took the world by storm and Patrick fought hard until the end.

Through the years this couple dealt with success, disappointment, addiction and loss, and they coped together as a team. After Swayze’s death she became an advocate for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

3. Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson

Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson were married for 15 years (*correction from original article) which, in Hollywood, is amazing! Sadly, back in 2009, Richardson died suddenly from a head injury she sustained while skiing at Mont Tremblant. Although an ambulance was initially called, the actress turned it away; however, an hour later, Richardson complained of feeling ill and was rushed to a hospital.

Neeson was able to see her in Montreal and then was airlifted with her to a hospital in New York State where she died. At times, Neeson has said he is still overcome with grief when he thinks about his wife.

2. Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams

Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams met and fell in love on the set of “Brokeback Mountain.” After an engagement and a child, the couple decided to split in 2007. The world seemed hopeful that these two would reunite; however, in 2008, Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

Although Williams and Ledger were estranged at the time of his death, Williams has said that one of her favorite things to imagine the two of them ending up together.

1. Cory Monteith and Lea Michelle

This cute couple looked every bit in love and Lea Michelle would often gush about Cory in interviews! “He makes me feel like I can do anything. For the first time in my life, I feel really, really settled and happy. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world,” Michelle told Marie Claire.

Unfortunately, despite going to rehab earlier this year for a drug and alcohol problem, Moneith died accidentally from a lethal mix of heroin and alcohol this past summer. Michelle has soldiered on, but her heart remains broken.
