Dancing With The Stars’ 10 Most Shocking Injuries

Dancing with the Stars is one of those shows where the people involved are likely to get injured. This is probably because many of the celebrities who jump on board don’t have a background in dance and many of them are really uncoordinated. Still, for some of them it’s their best chance at jumpstarting their stalled careers, so it probably seems worth the risk. Here are Dancing with the Stars 10 shocking injuries:

10. Gilles Marini

French actor Gilles Marini experienced two injuries during his season eight stint on Dancing with the Stars. First, he pulled his groin and then he fractured his shoulder, which required surgery.

9. Nancy O-Dell

Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell had to withdraw from season eight of Dancing with the Stars because she tore the meniscus in her knee, which required surgery. According to her doctor, it was a significant tear and would require eight weeks of rehab after the surgery.

8. Kym Johnson

Professional dancer Kym Johnson found herself injured when her dancing partner, NFL pro Hines Ward, accidentally dropped her during rehearsal. Kym ended up landing on her neck and was rushed to the hospital. Lucky for her, she quickly recovered from the injury and went on to win season 12 of the show!

7. Misty May-Treanor

Olympic beach volleyball champ Misty May-Treanor had to bow out of competing in season seven of Dancing with the Stars after she tore her Achilles tendon during rehearsal. The injury required surgery and approximately nines month of rehab for her to recover.

6. Dorothy Hamill

Olympic figure skating legend Dorothy Hamill dropped out of season sixteen of Dancing with the Stars because of a spinal injury. She had a cyst on her spine and her spine surgeon advised her to leave the competition.

5. Kim Zolciak-Biermann

While on Dancing with the Stars, Kim Zolciak-Biermann suffered a mini stroke that caused her to be hospitalized. She ended up getting the boot the following week from the show because she could not fly back to Los Angeles for the broadcast.

4. Steve-O

Former Jackass star Steve-O suffered a back injury when he fell on his mic pack during dress rehearsal. He was forced to sit out during competition night, so the judges based their scores on his rehearsal performance. His score was so low that he was sent home.

3. Cristián de la Fuente

Chilean-American actor Cristián de la Fuente ruptured a tendon in his bicep during a performance during season six of Dancing with the Stars. He was sent to the hospital where it was determined that he needed surgery and a sling. The following week, he performed with his injured arm, but he was eliminated a few weeks later, finishing in third.

2. Jewel

Jewel withdrew from season eight of Dancing with the Stars after she was told that she had tendonitis, which was diagnosed after she fractured both her tibias. Her injuries were so severe that she couldn’t walk. Holly Madison, former star of Girls Next Door, took her place on the show.

1. Jennifer Grey

Jennifer Grey may have won the mirror ball trophy during season eleven of Dancing with the Stars, but she had to suffer for it. Shortly after the finale, she required back surgery for a ruptured disk. This wasn’t the most serious surgery she’s ever had. After a serious car accident that left two people dead in 1987, she’s had several surgeries on her neck. One of the surgeries was to remove to a cancerous growth on her thyroid.
