Cast Of Friends: Where Are They Now?

Everett Collection

If we are all being honest we know exactly where the cast of Friends is now because the show had such an impact on our lives, we could never let them go. Friends aired from 1994-2004 for the best ten seasons that any show on television has ever seen and due to its popularity many of its stars have remained well known, which is not always the fate for stars of popular TV series. While many have come close, no cast has had quite the same natural chemistry as the six main characters of Friends had, creating a show full of humor and emotion so real we couldn’t help but love it. The six stars were surrounded by a great supporting cast and now that it has been 11 years (yes really!) since the last episode aired take a look at where our favourite Friends are now.

James Michael Tyler (Gunther)

If Friends had an Unsung Hero Award it would most definitely go to the slightly creepy, somewhat adorable and a lot funny Gunther portrayed by James Michael Tyler, 58. Gunther appeared in 148 episodes of the show’s 236 when he had previously only had minor roles in lesser known projects and was actually only cast because he could actually run an espresso machine. He hadn’t acted a lot before and he hasn’t done much since but that’s okay because we will only ever think of him as Gunther anyway. James Michael Tyler has continued to be a supporter of Friends and its huge fanbase, opening a Central Perk replica in London for the show’s 15th anniversary and appeared in the BBC/Showtime sitcom Episodes.

Maggie Wheeler (Janice)

OH MY GAWD! Friends had a lot of guest stars come and go and while all of them were pretty great, there is no beating Chandler’s one time girlfriend Janice played by Maggie Wheeler, 53. Thanks to her memorable sound Wheeler has continued acting appearing several times in shows like Everybody Loves Raymond and Californication while also lending her voice to series like Archer. She has appeared in several single episodes of major television shows as well and remains married to her husband of 25 years Daniel Borden Wheeler with whom she shares two children.

Paul Rudd (Mike Hannigan)

Phoebe had quite a few interesting love interests over the show but the one who finally captured her heart and ours was Mike Hannigan played by none other than Paul Rudd, 46. Rudd was still in the beginning of launching his career when he appeared in Friends from 2002-2004 and as we all know has had an incredible Hollywood career since. In 2004 he co-starred in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, beginning an ongoing collaboration in Judd Apatow films. Going on to fame in films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and several others, Rudd may be in his biggest role to date after landing himself as the lead Scott Lang/Ant-Man in the stand alone superhero film. He remains married to Julie Yaeger and the couple share two children Jack and Darby.

Courtney Cox (Monica Geller)

Courtney Cox, 50, had quite a few acting credits to her name before embodying the hilarious role of neurotic and obsessive Monica Geller. Coming off films like Scream and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Cox landed the role of Monica, one of the core six, and while that is what many consider her best role she has also continued acting. She reprised her role as Gale Weathers in Scream 4 and appeared on a few TV series before landing the lead in Cougar Town which ran for six seasons from 2009-2015. She still owns a production company Coquette Productions which she created with former husband David Arquette.  After separating from Arquette in 2010 the divorce was finalized in 2013, the same year Cox began dating Snow Patrol rocker Johnny McDaid whom she is now planning her wedding to.

Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing)

Matthew Perry, 45, was arguably the funniest character on Friends and has given us all enough sarcastic lines to get us through any situation and although not a stranger to the Hollywood scene, he became most well known as Chandler Bing. Perry has continued working in TV as well as films co-starring alongside Zac Efron in 2009’s 17 Again and appearing in a few TV movies. Unfortunately for Perry several of the shows he has been a part of have not gone nearly as well as Friends. He landed a role on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and although critically acclaimed the series was canceled after one season from 2006-2007. His next series Mr. Sunshine was also cancelled after only nine episodes aired, and the same fate happened to Go On which was cancelled shortly after the end of the first season. He is now starring alongside Thomas Lennon who also appeared in 17 Again, in a remake of The Odd Couple which Perry also co-writes and executive-produces which has luckily been renewed for a second season.

Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay)

Lisa Kudrow, 51, made the character of Phoebe Buffay on Friends truly iconic, and her acting ability has kept her working long after the show has been off the air. She appeared in a few films including 2007’s P.S. I Love You, but has once again found success on television thanks to her work on Shonda Rhimes’ hit Scandal and Web Therapy which has featured several of her Friends co-stars. Her biggest success however is probably HBO’s The Comeback. The series began in 2005 and ran for one season before being cancelled but was then revived nine years later much to the delight of fans who can’t get enough of the wit behind the show for which Kudrow also acts as a screenwriter and executive producer. Kudrow remains married to Michael Stern whom she wed in 1995, together they have one son Julian Murray, 17.

Matt LeBlanc (Matt LeBlanc)

How you doin’ Matt LeBlanc? Well these days our former Joey Tribbiani has had great success with his newest television series Episodes. As we all know following the end of Friends, Matt LeBlanc, 47, attempted to carry on the Friends fame through his own spin-off simply titled Joey. Many thought this was a good idea because of Joey being a central focus of humor on the show, however we soon realized Joey was only Joey with his other Friends around. Joey almost lasted for two whole seasons but did not get completely through the second before being cancelled, although the completely opposite effect happened with Episodes. Written and co-created by Friends co-creator David Crane, Episodes earned LeBlanc a Golden Globe in 2012 and has become a massive success. Shortly after his divorce from Melissa McKnight he LeBlanc began dating actress Andrea Anders however the two announced their split in January 2015, LeBlanc has one daughter, Marina, 11.

Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green)

Jennifer Aniston’s role as Rachel Green in Friends was made iconic by her hairstyle and her charm turning into the person every guy wanted to be with and who every girl wanted to be. Luckily for us Aniston, 46, has gone absolutely nowhere, becoming one of the top of A-list actresses in Hollywood. She racked up the roles in romantic comedies like The Break-Up, Marley & Me, He’s Just Not That Into You, The Switch and Just Go With It. While she was criticized for plateuing in those roles, she reminded us how funny she can be with Horrible Bosses, Horrible Bosses 2 and We’re the Millers. She then took a dramatic turn in her role as Claire Bennett in Cake, kicking up a lot of Oscar buzz and proving she is a spectacular actress. Not to mention she looks like she hasn’t aged a day, earning her the position of face and spokesperson for a few cosmetic companies. Aniston remains engaged to Justin Theroux whom she began dating in 2011, and has not hinted at any wedding plans.

David Schwimmer (Ross Geller)

While Joey and Chandler offered us the audible comedy, David Schwimmer as Ross Geller provided us with some of the best and most hilarious facial reactions we have ever seen. After the conclusion of Friends, Schwimmer did work on stage in London and on Broadway and also ventured behind the camera making his directorial debut in Run Fatboy Run. He stayed off the screen but still found huge success including offering his voice to Melman the giraffe for the successful Madagascar animated films. He also appeared on Web Therapy and showed up in Episodes alongside Matt LeBlanc, but is returning to TV in a big way with Ryan Murphy’s newest show American Crime Story. Schwimmer has taken on the role of Robert Kardarshian, the lawyer to former football player accused of murder his wife, O.J. Simpson, in the first season of American Crime Story, The People v. O.J. Simpson. Schwimmer remains married to wife Zoe Buckman and the two share one daughter, Cleo, born in May 2011.
