After being turned down and then friend-zoned, somehow these two found love together, made it off the show engaged and are now newlyweds and expectant parents! 9. The Moment Carly Fell in Love

These two didn’t have a ‘love at first sight’ kind of romance. In fact, Carly turned down the erectile dysfunction specialist several times before finally admitting she had feelings for him. In an interview with Glamour, she pinpointed the exact moment things changed. “The hospital date…He had two infections, actually. There were no cameras, and it felt like I was dating in normal life. We started getting this connection, and I remember sitting in the car on the way back and thinking, ‘I really want to hold his hand. What?’ And then, ‘Oh my gosh, I think I really like him. What?’ It was just this thing that was a roller coaster, and it started out where I broke up with him like five times,” she said.

8. How To Make it Work in Paradise

According to Carly Waddell, 31, the reason their relationship was able to work was because of how much time they spent just talking to each other on Bachelor in Paradise. “I think that we spent so much time getting to know each other and like stepped away from the drama, and I think that was really important for us,” she said to E! News. In an op-ed for The Hollywood Reporter, Evan echoed Carly’s accounts of how they spent their time in Paradise: “Carly and I sat on a beach for weeks talking. At first I creeped her out, but because of the time allowed to just hang after she friend-zoned me, she came to realize she not only liked my flavor of creepiness, but wanted to marry it as well!”

7. Their Favorite Qualities About Each Other

In an interview with E!, both Carly and Evan revealed what their favorite thing is about each other. For Carly, it’s how accepting Evan is: “I think he’s just very accepting. I have a lot of flaws, and he really just accepts them…He’s just very nonjudgmental, which is super important in a relationship with anyone, and it’s really nice to have with your spouse,” she said. Evan on the other hand replied with, “For me I think it’s Carly’s openness. I know exactly where she stands at all times about everything…I just think her ability to process her emotions without a filter. I really love that she wears her heart on her sleeve and is able to just communicate without fear of anything.”

6. Taking Their Relationship into the Real World

One of the biggest hurdles for any couple from Bachelor Nation is making their relationship work in the real world, outside of reality TV. “All couples go through things, especially coming off of an intense period like Paradise or Bachelor or something, but we’ve worked through all our stuff so well,” said Evan. “I hate how people think there’s some kind of fairytale in front of the cameras…We’re just living a normal life, you know? We talk step-by-step, and we work through. I think that our communication and our ability to have conversations…that’s been the key to working on our relationship and working towards marriage.”

5. Waited to Move in Together

Since 34-year-old Evan Bass has three sons from a previous relationship, Carly and Evan made sure to take their relationship super slow after the cameras stopped rolling and they had to return to real life. She didn’t move in with Evan until after they were married. “We just wanted to give that it’s proper time. I feel so fulfilled being a part of Evan’s family, and I think that we just really gave it time and eased into it and let everyone kind of feel it out, and that is what really worked for us. We never pushed anything, we never jumped in too fast,” said Carly to E! Today, they all live under the same roof in Nashville.

4. The Wedding

When they planned the wedding, Carly and Evan decided to pay tribute to their past and exchanged nuptials in televised beachside ceremony in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. Their wedding took place at Vidanta Nuevo resort in June 2017 and was officiated by none other than cupid himself — Chris Harrison! It was a Bachelor Nation affair with several alums in attendance like Whitney Bischoff, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Shawn Booth, Nick Viall, Vanessa Grimaldi, Wells Adams, Jade Roper, Jared Haibon, Ashley Iaconetti, and Emily and Haley Ferguson.

3. Surprise Pregnancy

No one was more surprised to learn about Carly and Evan’s pregnancy than the two of them! The newlyweds found out that they were pregnant right after they tied the knot; in fact they were still in Mexico at the time! “It was a great surprise, it’s a great little miracle. I was a little late…We took a pregnancy test in Mexico, and we saw the thing [in Spanish] and were like, ‘What does that even say?’ So we Googled it,” said Carly, and sure enough, it was a positive!

2. Wishing for a Baby Girl

Carly and Evan were talking about expanding their family well before they got married. Carly had frozen her eggs which came in handy when planning for the future, especially considering they want to make sure they have a little girl at some point. “I think we’re just going to keep trying until we have a baby girl.” Their prayers were answered because in August 2017, they found out they are expecting a baby girl due in February 2018! “Our whole family was hoping for a girl and it’s a dream come true. When we found out we both started crying our eyes out with tears of happiness. We are already planning an all pink room. They boys freaked out,” said Evan to E! News.

1. Being a Stepmom

When Carly agreed to marry Evan, she not only agreed to spend her life with him, but she also took on his three sons, Nathan, Liam and Ensley, all of whom are from Evan’s previous relationship. Even though Carly was nervous about meeting his kids and whether or not they would like her, Evan told ET she’s a great step-mom! “The boys adore her. It’s really amazing. It’s just the energy she brings. You’re drawn to her, and I think she just walked in so positive and welcoming. She’s done the work too. She’s taken them each out, and she’ll take them to do fun things. If I have to stay at work a little late, she’ll hang with them. She’s really invested in the time it takes.”
