6 Epic Royal Family Scandals And Secrets
Celebrities can get away with a lot, but nothing compared to the royal families around the world. They have so much wealth and so much power – and so many skeletons in their luxurious, 2,000 square foot, walk-in closets. These families show each other a tremendous amount of support. When one of them goes down, the others rally around them, which is good, we suppose. Family is important. However, some of these people are obviously guilty of some really questionable things. Having the other royals rallying around them isn’t always a good thing. We are looking at 6 members of the royal family and all of their dirty secrets!
6. Prince Charles
Princess Charles was far from the perfect husband. When he married Princess Diana, he was already in love with Camilla Parker Bowles. He had been having an affair with her on an on-again/off-again basis since the early ‘70s. Things really began to heat up with him and Parker Bowles while he was still married to Diana. According to her, this is what caused their marriage to breakdown.
In 1992, an intimate telephone conversation between the Prince and Parker-Bowles from 1989 was leaked to Today and the Mirror newspapers, which became known as “Camillagate.” In the recording, the two lovers expressed their passionate love for each other and brainstormed places where they could secretly rendezvous. The conversation seriously damaged Charles’ reputation, as it seemed to prove that he had been cheating on Diana throughout their 11-year marriage. He denied the allegations, claiming that he only rekindled his relationship with Parker-Bowles after his marriage had “irretrievably broken down” in 1986.
5. Prince Harry
Prince Harry is considered the wild prince. While his brother William is really straight-laced, Harry likes to have a good time, which usually means he isn’t putting a lot of thought into what he is doing. This became especially clear back in 2011, when he was photographed naked, covering his “crown jewels,” in a Las Vegas hotel room after a game of strip billiards. “It was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince. It’s a simple case of that,” he said about the incident.
This wasn’t the first time that the Prince caused controversy. In 2002, he admitted to smoking pot. His father sent him to rehab. In 2004, his former teacher claimed that she helped him cheat on his A-level exams. In 2005, he was spotted sporting a Nazi armband at a party. In 2009, he was forced to apologize to a fellow cadet for calling him “our little Paki friend.” Where Harry goes, controversy follows!
4. Princess Fergie
Just like her ex husband, Prince Andrew, Fergie has found herself in a series of scandals, most of them involving money. In 2005, she was caught on tape accepting $750,000 from an undercover journalist posing as an international tycoon for access to Andrew. “Five hundred thousand pounds [approx $750,000] when you can, to me…[to] open doors,” she said. “Then you open up all the channels, whatever you need, whatever you want…We can do so much. If you want to meet him in your business, look after me and he’ll look after you.”
This wasn’t the only trouble that Fergie was found herself in. She came under fire again in 2011 when she admitted to receiving financial help from Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire financier turned convicted pedophile who reportedly pimped out a teenage girl to her ex husband. She claimed, at the time, that she intended to pay it all back, which makes us wonder how she will ever do that. The woman has serious issues with money!
3. Princess Diana
Princess Diana and Prince Charles had a loveless marriage, which forced her to find affection in other places. She had an affair with James Hewitt for five years. Many have noted that he bears an uncanny resemblance to her youngest son, Prince Harry; however, he claims their affair began after the boy was born. When their relationship ended, he did the unthinkable – he accepted $150,000 from the Daily Express to tell-all and years later he also tried to make a quick buck by selling their love letters for £10 million.
While she was married to Charles, Diana also had an affair with James Gilbey. A passionate call between these two lovers was leaked to the press, which became known as “Squidgeygate,” as his pet name for her was Squidgy or Squidge. The leaked conversation reportedly ruined the relationship. The love of Diana’s life was a heart surgeon by the name of Hasnet Khan. They dated in secret for two years after her divorce from Charles. She was rumored to be pregnant with his child when she died.
2. Prince Albert
Prince Albert of Monaco was the ultimate playboy bachelor for many years. He had affairs with everyone, from models and actress to waitresses and flight attendants. He actually had children with two of these women; however, neither child is considered an heir to the throne. According to one of the women, the Prince doesn’t even see his son. He also refused to recognize his illegitimate daughter until a DNA confirmed her parentage back in 2006. The mother had tried to take him to court in 1993, but the case was dismissed because there was “insufficient contact between [Prince] Albert and the state of California to justify hearing a suit there.”
In 2011, Albert married South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock, who is 20-years his junior. The marriage was reportedly arranged and there are also rumors that she was looking for a way out before the big day. How did the Prince deal with that? He allegedly had his lawyers confiscate her passport.
1. Prince Andrew
Prince Andrew has been accused of knowingly bedding a teenage girl over a decade ago. The woman making the allegations, Virginia Roberts, claims that the prince’s friend Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire financier turned convicted pedophile, kept her as a sex slave and pimped her out to Andrew for $15,000 when she was just 17-years-old. The details are quite lurid. “He started licking my toes, between my toes, the arches of my feet,” she alleges. “And then we went into the bedroom and he proceeded to make love to me, so to speak. He wasn’t rude. But it wasn’t like love either. It was more like, ‘I’m getting my business done.’”
Representatives at Buckingham Palace have emphatically denied the allegations and so has the prince. “I just wish to reiterate and to reaffirm the statements which have already been made on my behalf by Buckingham Palace,” he said. “My focus is on my work.”
