12 On-Screen BFFS Who Hate Each Other In Real Life

On set, these besties couldn’t be closer. They are all smiles, giggles, and hugs. But once the cameras shut off, the lights go out, and the set is cleared, a chilly iciness descends as these BFFs can’t get away from each other fast enough. Professional actors never let on how much they loathe their co-stars, while others do everything they can to get their frenemies off set ASAP. Sometimes there are jeers, yelling, backstabbing, and full out brawls that break out. Here is a list of the top celebrity “friends” who sport the moto “keep your friends close and enemies closer.”

12. Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker

On set Samantha (Kim Cattrall) would do anything for Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Carrie supported Samantha through chemo and her nasty brake up with Richard. Off set it’s a different story. Rumors abound that Parker brooded over Cattrall’s popularity, and Cattrall was furious that Parker made more money than the rest of the Sex and the City gals. The two actresses were always professional and fans, for the most part, were left in the dark over the feud brewing backstage.

11. Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande

These two were inseparable on Nickelodeon’s Victorious. Victoria Justice (Tori Vega) and Ariana Grande (Cat Valentine) were all smiles and big hugs while the cameras rolled, but once the director yelled ‘cut,’ the claws came out. Apparently Grande was quite the bully who was super bossy to Justice. Currently, the two diva teens refuse to work together again.

10. Blake Lively and Leighton Meester

Gossip Girl besties Blake Lively (Serena) and Leighton Meester (Blair) were far from chummy off set. They clashed constantly over the direction of the show, each hoping to get the best storylines and be the center of the plot. There is also gossip that Meester got a far superior wardrobe budget, which Lively thought should go to her because her movie career outshone Meester’s. Meester was also upset that Lively never congratulated her when she got engaged to actor Adam Brody.

9. Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth

To be fair, on-screen Kelly (Jennie Garth) and Brenda (Shannen Doherty) endured many ups and downs throughout their friendship as they competed for Dylan (Luke Perry). Looking back, Garth commented, “There were times when we loved each other and there were times when we wanted to claw each other’s eyes out.” Apparently these two frenemies patched things up and are BFFs again.

8. Ryan Reynolds and Wesley Snipes

The hunks of Blade Trinity (2004) were hardly on speaking terms while filming the vampire flick. Wesley Snipes (Blade) only showed up on set to film his close ups and let his body double do the rest of the work. In the scenes with Hannibal King (Ryan Reynolds) and Blade, Reynolds was left to say his lines alone as Snipes was in his trailer.

7. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson

Who could forget this dynamic duo who were the best ghostbuster team on this side of the supernatural. However, it doesn’t take the FBI to discover that these two despised each other. When asked about his feud with former co-star Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully), David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) remarked, “We used to argue about nothing. We couldn’t stand the sight of each other.”

6. Naya Rivera and Lea Michele

On set, the backstabbing cheerleader Santana (Naya Rivera) and goody two-shoes Rachel (Lea Michele) rarely got along, but when push comes to shove, they supported each other and recognized each other’s talent. When the showtunes ended, these performers were constantly bickering. Rivera claimed that Michele was a total drama queen and there are rumors Rivera was jealous that her character was never the star.

5. Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell

After winning the Oscar for Ray, Jamie Foxx became a diva on the set of Miami Vice. Since his star was rising, he ranted that he should get paid more and haggled for a pay increase, while Farrell took a cut. Farrell always showed up to set ready to work, whereas Foxx would constantly change his mind and was afraid of doing scenes with boats and planes.

4. Teri Hatcher and the Rest of the Desperate Housewives Cast

While Wisteria Lane was full of scandal, backstage tensions mounted between the Desperate Housewives actresses. Terri Hatcher’s (Susan) castmates couldn’t stand her, claiming she was the “meanest woman in the world.” While the rest of the stars hung out off set, Hatcher was regularly excluded.

3. Audrina Patridge and Lauren Conrad

The Hills’ stars were pressured to become fast friends to fuel the drama and intrigue on MTV’s hit series. Once the show took its final bow, Lauren Conrad and gal pal Audrina Patridge parted ways. It was the producers of the show that kept the friendship together, but these two couldn’t wait to get away from each other.

2. America Ferrera and Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan was asked to guest star on America Ferrera’s sitcom Ugly Betty in 2008 for six episodes. Lohan played Betty’s (America Ferrera) nemesis from high school who claims she has turned over a new leaf and works with Betty at MODE magazine. Ferrara found Lohan extremely difficult to work with (surprise surprise) and asked for Lohan’s character to be cut out after only four episodes. No one messes with Ugly Betty.

1. Lucy Liu and Bill Murray

Ever wonder why Bill Murray was replaced by Bernie Mac in the role of Bosley for Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle? Bill Murray (Bosley) and Lucy Liu (Alex) couldn’t stand each other. During an argument, Murray told Liu, “I get why you’re here (Barrymore), and you’ve got talent (Diaz)… but what in the hell are you doing here. You can’t act!”  Their spat shut down production for the day.
