Jamie Lynn Spears – younger sister of Britney Spears – has been famous for a good chunk of her life. Although she took a hiatus from the spotlight when she got pregnant with her daughter Maddie, for the last few years, she’s been focused on making the career transition from acting to country music. Since it’s her birthday, here are some things you didn’t know about the star:

She was engaged to Maddie’s father, Casey Aldridge, from 2008 to 2009. In 2013, she announced her engagement to Jamie Watson and the two were married in 2014.

She attended Parklane Academy where she was a cheerleader and the point guard for the girl’s basketball team; however, she finished high school via online correspondence.

9. Acting Bug

Her first acting role was in Crossroads. She played the younger version of her sister Britney’s character.

8. Controversy

She caused controversy in 2014 when she broke up a brawl in a Pita Pit in Hammond, Louisiana, when she grabbed a long, serrated bread knife and started waving it around. The whole incident was caught on camera.

7. Songwriting

She co-wrote the Jana Kramer song “I Got the Boy,” which was released on Kramer’s 2015 album Thirty One.

6. Too Scared to Ask

She was too scared to ask the doctor for birth control when she was dating Casey Aldridge, the father of Maddie, which is why she ended up getting pregnant at 16.
